Memphis Drubbed Late by UCF, 32-14

Published Oct. 3, 2009 at 11:19 p.m.
Tommy West and the University of Memphis Tigers' season of woe -- and woeful football -- continued today in Orlando, as the Central Florida Knights outscored UM 29-7 in the second half to win going away, 32-14.

This one got ugly late in the game. The Tigers led at halftime, 7-3, and behind Will Hudgens, who replaced an ineffective Tyler Bass at quarterback, the Tigers scored a touchdown to take a 14-9 lead with only two minutes left in the third quarter. Then, as we noted, it got ugly.

UCF scored a TD with 2 seconds left in the third quarter to retake the lead 15-14, then scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

It was the usual comedy of errors and missed opportunities for the Tigers -- interceptions, missed field goals, in particular. The Tigers are now 1-4, with the "easiest" part of their schedule behind them.

Full box-score, stats, play-by-play, etc. here.
